What To Look For In The Cab Of A Used Semi-Truck

Posted on

You don't want a semi-truck with mechanical concerns, so looking under the hood first is important. This isn't all you want to consider. As a driver, you will be spending a great deal of time within the truck's cab. You want to ensure the cab is suitable for your needs and has all the necessary features. When shopping for a semi-truck, here are just some of the points you want to look over in the cab.

Seats

Look at the seats first. Take some time to examine the ergonomic level of the chairs. With a used truck, it's not unheard of for seats to have wear that affects seat ergonomics. Don't just sit in the seat to ensure comfort. You also want to make driving motions and adjustments on the dash or control panel as you would if you were on the road to get a real gauge of comfort and good functionality.

It's also important to ensure the operation of the seat's air suspension system. A nonexistent, or failing, suspension will have a negative effect on your comfort while riding.

Electrical Access

Particularly if you're a long-distance driver, given the amount of time you spend in your truck, you want to have as many conveniences on hand as possible. Whether it's an electrical shaver, small refrigerator or an air purifier – you want to be able to use these items. Make certain the truck can accommodate your electrical needs.

In order to accomplish this, it's a good idea to make a small list of all the items you plan to take in your truck, along with their electrical data. When you're looking at trucks, you can refer back to this list to ensure you're covered.

Sleeping Quarters

Without good rest, your driving performance can be negatively impacted. Make sure the cab's sleeping quarters will be conducive for quality rest. Even though you will likely replace the mattress, it's still a good idea to lie down in the bed to measure comfort. Does the bed allow you to rest comfortably without feeling constrained?

It's also a good idea to examine if the sleeping quarters are multi-functional. For instance, is there a storage compartment under the mattress? Given the already limited space inside the cab, extra features like this can make a truck more appealing.

If you don't know exactly what features you need in your semi-truck, a used sales specialist will be able to assist you with this process and help find the truck best suited to meet your needs.
